Plott Hounds were bred to hunt large game such as the bear, boar, and mountain lion. This breed originated in the United States and was bred by the Plott family. Breeders aimed at producing a very strong breed with good hunting instincts. It was also important for them to breed the dogs that were easy to tend and made good companions. The dogs had to be healthy and obedient.
