Plott Hounds are medium-sized strong dogs that are used in hunting. The Plott Hound can also be used as a pet. However, the breed rarely performs this function. The Plott Hound has a well-muscled body and a long tail carried high when the dog is at attention. The coat is short and dense. The most common colors are brindle, slate blue, and buckskin. The Plott Hounds ears are large and long. Webbed feet are a distinct feature of the breed.

Plott Hounds - Temperament
The Plott Hound is said to make a loving companion and an energetic hunting dog. The breed is friendly with children and tends to learn commands very quickly. The Plott Hound is intelligent and alert. These dogs can be relaxed and mellow in the family. During a hunt, Plott Hounds are likely to be determined and ready to obey owner's commands.
Plott Hounds are scent dogs. They were bred for hunting activities and proudly fulfill their duties. The breed is courageous and suits for hunting the coyote, wildcat, and wolf.
Plott Hounds - Care Requirements
The Plott Hound is not recommended for apartment dwellers. This breed needs a great deal of exercise. Plott Hounds are happiest when exercised daily and given a chance to run freely. It is important to make sure the dog is socialized early and trained obedience rules. The Plott Hound should be accustomed to waking on leash. This requirement is vital for all hunting breeds since they can be carried away by various scents.
Plott Hounds - Health
The Plott Hound is generally robust. Breeders attempted to produce a hardy dog with minimum care requirements. The breed is susceptible to bloat. Make sure the dog does not eat large quantities of food at once. Plott Hounds should not be exercised after a large meal.
